The new Caddy is the fourth generation of the popular compact van and VW has given this version a fresh new look. There’s a new range of engines and it comes in two variants, Caddy and Caddy Maxi. There are more optional extras than on the previous generation, including a seven-speed DSG gearbox, 4MOTION four-wheel drive, Bluetooth connectivity, adaptive cornering lights and roof rails. 

Four engines are available on the Caddy range which includes the 1.6-litre TDI engines and two 2.0TDI engines. The low-powered 1.6-litre TDI has a power output of 74bhp while the higher-powered version of the same engine has 100bhp. The lower-powered 2.0TDI engine comes with 4MOTION (four-wheel drive system from VW) and has a power output of 108bhp, while the higher-powered 2.0-litre engine has an output of 138bhp. All these engines are mated to a five-speed manual gearbox but a seven-speed DSG (box is also available as an option).

The Caddy has almost car-like handling and this will suit van drivers who need a practical, manoeuvrable vehicle for delivering goods in towns and city centres. The suspension is borrowed from the Golf/Touran platform so the Caddy deals with bends pretty well, even when laden. It’s nimble and when cornering it feels like a well set-up vehicle.  We were very impressed with this small van and think it out shines most of its rivals, suiting the needs and budget of any business.
