Volkswagen started to grow its commercial vehicle range beyond the Transporter when it introduced the Caddy in 2004. Volkswagen also saw the opportunity to fill the gap between Caddy and T5 Transporter by in 2008 releasing an extended platform version of the Caddy called the Caddy Maxi Van.
Caddy Maxi has no direct competitors, the entry-level 1.6-litre petrol engine develops 75kW at 5600rpm and 148Nm at 3800rpm, the optional 1.9-litre TDI engine develops 77kW at 4000rpm and 250Nm at 1900rpm. The petrol engine has a five-speed manual transmission only, while the TDI engine has the five-speed manual as standard and there is the option to upgrade to a six-speed DSG automatic transmission.
The Caddy has almost car-like handling and this will suit van drivers who need a practical, manoeuvrable vehicle for delivering goods in towns and city centres.
